"When a cavity is taken out, we replaced it with a filling that's tooth colored. Usually the materials that they use, they start out very soft, and it's this curing light that allows us to make a filling hard and strong. And basically it involves putting the material on the tooth and then pressing the button on the light. It basically shines this ultraviolet light, and that--it's from this light that the filling actually becomes hard and lets the patient function on it appropriately. The best things about being a dentist is, again, being in the health profession, we get the opportunity to heal people. We see a lot of diseases that can be fixed very, very easily, and it's very rewarding to do something simple--you know, maybe fix a small filling or, you know, eliminate a cavity to get someone out of pain. So, no one likes to go to the dentist and everyone has a fear of pain and certainly going to the dentist, but it's a very rewarding thing in terms of being able to take someone that's in pain and let them walk out feeling a hundred percent relief. That part is very, very rewarding. Certainly, there's financial aspects of being able to have a practice and do well and prosperous. By doing the stuff that you enjoy doing. Most dentists try to stay away from things that they don't enjoy, and do the things that are fun to them, and that are profitable. Some of the worst things are also dealing with pain, because many patients have a fear of the dentist, and it can stem from something as simple as a childhood experience, or just a recent bad experience. And certainly having to help patients conquer anxiety from a bad experience or just the pain that they present, and that can be difficult at times. And certainly some procedures are easier than others, and even the same procedure can be good on one person and bad on the other person, depending on the situation they present in, their anxiety, or even the skill level of their dentist."
