on 1/24/2009 Wow, it never occurred to me to clean my hairbrush. I just put mine in the bathroom sink with hot water and lavender soap to soak for a few hours. I did the pre-clean with Q-Tips and lifted up some gunk! Ew, ew ewwww! Thanks for the tip!

"Got to get all my brushes together because I got to get them clean. This is something you should do at home too. Oh hey. You're just in time. I'm going to show you how to clean hairbrushes. So, a lot of us don't do this on a regular basis, but this is something that needs to be done because it could help the health of your hair. We want to clean our brushes, so what do we do? We get some clean, soapy water, and it can be any detergent. Nothing is going to hurt your brushes because they're normally made of acrylic or plastic. So, any type of warm, soapy water is fine. Make sure to immerse the brush in the water, and you can do this with your combs too. It kind of disinfects them. And it just keeps them clean. There's all kind of gunk that's get down into your brush. So if you can, you can pick up one of these application brushes from your local beauty supply store, dip it in some water, and just push that dirt out of your comb. Like so. Once you do that, go ahead and immerse the whole comb into the water, and do the same thing with your brush. Sometime oils and dirt can accumulate around the bristles. So you want to loosen it up, and then, go ahead and immerse that as well. Now it only needs to stay in the water for five or ten minutes. But, you can do this early in the morning when you're doing some cleaning up in your restroom. Go ahead and pull all your brushes and combs into some warm, soapy water, leave it for the day, come back, and rinse them off. Now what you want to make sure to do is that you take your application brush and just clean in there really, really good. And just remove all that dirt and scum, because remember, healthy hair, we need to use all things clean, and all things that are disinfected. So, this is something you can do at home. We want to make sure and keep our brushes clean. My name is Sylvia Russell, and this is how you clean a hairbrush."
