"Hi, my name's Amy Kistler, and I'm going to talk about the steps to becoming a personal trainer. First, you need to go and get some background in exercise physiology, biology, and especially anatomy. Having these types of information in your brain will help you prepare for the test. You also need to go out and actually know how to exercise yourself. Maybe shadow a personal trainer and get ideas of how they explain to people how you do exercises. It's also beneficial for you to get information on health, information on nutrition, and to go and prepare yourself for taking the test. Some people have degrees. You don't have to have a degree to be a personal trainer, but nowadays for getting hired in any gyms, it's definitely recommended to have a degree in exercise physiology, kinesiology, exercise science, health science, any of these degrees will help you get a job. Once you actually have your certification and you actually got to a facility and you take your test and you find out that you've passed your test, you have to do continuing education. So, to keep your certification valid, you have to go to continuing education classes. These continuing education classes do cost a little bit of extra money, but it's definitely beneficial for you and for your clients. There's places all over that you can go and get your certifications. Once you have your certification, they send you information where you can go and do continuing education. So the final step, actually getting the job, you've got to go out there and you've got to apply. You can apply on line to different gyms all over. You can walk into the gyms and apply. There's all different ways that you can apply to gyms."
