"Hi, my name is Ashley Ludman from Seaside Yoga and I'm here just to demonstrate a iyengar yoga pose. So, we'll be doing triangle pose and you'll find triangle pose in many different styles or types of hatha yoga The difference in iyengar yoga is the key aspects of alignment. So, in iyengar yoga pose in you may find teachers who hold you in poses and place different props around to help facilitate the alignment of the pose. So, for triangle pose you'll step wide and as wide as you can comfortably stand turning your right foot forward towards the front of the mat. The left foot back and in slightly so that there's a rotation of the back hip. Now, I have a block that I'm placing on the outside of my foot to help elevate the underside of the rib cage so I don't have to stress myself to get down to the floor. So, I my block as an extension of the arm. As I take a few breaths, I'm focusing on the length of the spine. I'm keeping my legs steady and stable and, drawing the shoulders onto the back, the chest may open freely. As you move into the various aspects of the pose, you become aware of your breath. You become aware of the alignment of the posture and you can finally take the top arm up and stretch your gaze up to the fingertips. To come out of the pose, transition mindfully placing your hand to your hip, and look down to your bottom foot. Firm your legs strong and lift from the core of your center and then you'll just return to your other side and follow the same alignment keys on that side. So again, to recap iyengar yoga poses focus predominantly on alignment and to explore this style of yoga, find a teacher who's either certified or educated in iyengar yoga and you'll gain some great insight into alignment within your yogasanas."
