Hi, I'm Ashley Ludman from Seaside Yoga here to tell you a little bit about chair yoga. First of all chair yoga is great for those of you who sit in chairs all day at your computer, or those of you who want to practice yoga and have trouble getting up and down from the floor. So the first one that we'll do is a seated twist. It's good to help lengthen your spine, and also detoxify your internal organs. And you'll just take a deep breath in and stretch up tall from the seat of your chair, and then gently twist. You can use your hand on the outside of your thigh, and just minimally go into your twist because this is the first one that you're doing, you want to take it a little bit easier. So you'll breath in and lengthen, and exhale and twist, and then inhale and come back to center, and then you'll do the other side. Breath in and lengthen, sit tall, and then exhale and twist, and then inhale and come back to center. You can also use the chair to just help support you in some knee to belly stretches. This helps to open up the hips and also helps to provide a gentle message for your internal organs and digestive system. And another great use for the chair is for balance. So you can stand up and come behind the chair and practice what's called the tree pose. Placing one foot to your upper thigh, or your lower leg, right above or below the knee, and see if you can balance. You can take one hand off of the chair, if you have difficulty balancing, keep the other hand on the chair. Or challenge yourself and bring both hands in front of your heart and center. And the last stretch for those of you sitting all day long, is using the chair to do a modify downward facing dog. So you'll place your hands on the back of the chair, and stretch long, taking a few deep breaths in and out through your nose. And when you're finished, just mindfully walk back up, and resume your activities. So thanks for joining us on a few helpful hints on chair yoga, and hope that was helpful to you.
