"Hi, my name is Ashley Ludman from Seaside Yoga. So the question of the moment, who developed yoga. And there's a lot of theories about this. Yoga is about 5 thousand to 6 thousand years old, and it originated in India. The ancient stages and sitas actually practiced a philosophy of meditation to reach self realization, god realization. And it wasn't until some time later that the sutras of patanjali came to be, and this is one of the ancient text of yoga. In a few of the sutras, and sutra means thread, there was mention of asana, and asana is a posture. Today we normally think of yoga as being a series of postures and practices to where you become flexible and you become strong. So in more modern times, the later masters have coined different types of hoca yoga styles, and those are the styles that we tend to see and think of yoga as today. But in essence yoga is the ability to focus the mind on one particular point. And we do that through asana, or posture work. We also do that through breath work and through meditation practice. So in essence yoga, we pull from a lot of different disciplines, and a lot of different teachers and ancient sages from many different styles, and many different countries and continents. So hopefully that gave you a little bit of insight, and you may want to go and research this a little bit more on your own. And look forward to practicing with you soon."
