"All right, first we're going to add the ones column. We're going to add nine plus one, and we get ten, and we write down the--I decided to become a teacher because I was seeking a profession that I could really give everything to, like I did with my writing, and I stumbled across that billboard that said making a difference. And that's really how it initially crossed my mind. I have a bachelor's in history and political science. And then became a journalist. I'm trying to think--after that I worked at the credit card company for a year, and then I worked there while I was working the alternative certification program prior to becoming a teacher. I have a lot of focus on writing and reading in the classroom, and actually every principal that I've had has--the first two principals that I had moved me into a position where I was teaching writing, because that was the first year that students were assessed for writing in Texas. And then when I moved up here to Tennessee, writing's been a big portion of how I do instruction. It's a little separate from how my other team members do it, but it's been equally effective. When I was younger, I wanted to be a defense attorney. I was on debate team for quite awhile in college, and I don't think--I think I had burned up that ambition by the time I left college. I don't think I wanted to be a defense attorney any longer after that."
