Summary: The clip detector in Logic Pro 8 allows users to limit compression. Find out how to use the Logic Pro clip detector feature in this free video tutorial on music recording software from a professional recording engineer.
"The next thing I'm going to show you about, is how to use the clip detector and how to really stay away from peaking. You know what I'm saying? And, any type of distortion. Usually, when you record there's going to be a lot of sounds coming in. And, at points there's going to be a lot of sounds where it's going to cause things to get like red and try to really get past the zero decibel threshold. You know what I'm saying? So, when using this if you have something up and it's peaking you can always just turn it down just to make it so it's not peaking. You can also do other things, as far as like adding effects as far as like plugins and reverbs. Or, not reverbs. But, plugins and like limiting or compression just to like bring it down. Bring down the level. You can also effect the gain and things like that. When doing this, you might just want to use the volume as much as possible. Because, the volume is probably the main thing that's going to help you keep your keep it from clipping. You know what I'm saying? Like, if there's a lot of instruments sometimes you might want to separate the instruments to separate tracks and things like that or just turn down the preamp gain and the way you record. If you're recording and like there's nothing, the volume's not doing anything and it's just like too loud on the ween you might just want to turn down the preamp volume or add a pad to it depending on what you're recording on."
