Summary: When detailing a car exterior, clean the windows by using a very fine piece of steel wool to remove imperfections. Clean car windows with tips from the owner of a car detail shop in this free video on exterior car details.
"Hi it's Dow here at the Firehouse car wash and detail. Today we're detailing the exterior of a car and as we do so we are training you how to do it like a professional. We are going to talk a little bit about windows and mirrors. One of the things that again are very critical is they make them clear so we can see out of them. So we want to remove dirt, grime, hard water anything that's causing that. In a previous section we talked about removing hard water. You can use an acid, you can use a very, very fine steel wool to remove maybe different imperfections off there. And we talked about decal removal so you can get that off as well. When it comes to cleaning the glass, we want to use a professional window cleaner that's designed for cars. The Windex you use at home you don't want to use on the interior of your windows because if you have any kind of tint it can actually damage that tint. We just simply wet down the window and I like a microfiber towel when I clean windows, seems to do a great job cleaning. What we want to do is we want to get the entire window so we trace the edges. I actually use my finger tips inside the towel to push hard along the crevices that go around. I go top to bottom and I've rolled this window down just a little bit because one of the places that are often missed is that little line we get on the window. So we roll it down a little bit cover that edge, we roll the window back up and then we can complete it. Anytime the window goes down and back up it's always going to leave a water spot if you've recently washed the car. So you always want to finish with the windows up and you can clean the window completely. Other then just tracing the edges, then what we want to do is you want to quickly go from side to side and then you want the fresh part of the towel by flipping it. And you want to go up and down. So you've now cleaned in both directions, your chances of having streaks is minimized and then to kind of to close the deal to make sure that it really is going to be clean and streak free, get a second towel that's clean and just give one last quick polish. Go over the window and your are guaranteed to have streak free clean windows if you follow those directions and make sure you get into the corners and clean the top of the glass. Your customers will be delighted."
