"While my model is getting ready we are going to talk about why there is naturally curly hair. Different factors in life can alter your natural curl or whether you have natural curl or not. First of all it is hereditary. Obviously if your parents or grandparents have naturally curly hair then you are destined to have naturally curly hair. I myself believe that 75% of the population has some sort of naturally curly hair. If you don't learn how to utilize it and work with it at a young age you can really not care for it. It could be on of those hassles that you have to deal with every day and therefore, that is why I have a passion for natural curly hair because I think that it is a gift and I think that we can learn how to work with it and how to use it. Some of the other factors that we can use to determine how curly your hair is or if it changes is hormones. If you become pregnant or if your hormones change during puberty that can change your hair and it can change your hair from being straight to curly or vice versa. One of the other things that unfortunately happens to people who have had to have chemotherapy is that their hair when it grow back out it can be curly so if that is the case then this is a good way to understand why it is curling and how to deal with it. Natural curly hair differs between straight hair because it is flat like a ribbon so if you think of a ribbon that you wrap packages at Christmas. If you pull that ribbon it curls up and that is how naturally curly hair is. So therefore the cuticle layering that is on the outside of the head, I'm sorry, the on the outside of the hair is a little bit more fragile and it opens up. Therefore, natural curly hair can feel drier, more brittle and can break easier so you have to be careful with it. You want to be careful when you get in chlorine, salt water or if you are in the wind too much and you need to offer deep conditioning treatments."
