A trailer is generally an un-powered vehicle pulled by a powered vehicle. Commonly, the term trailer refers to such vehicles used for transport of goods and materials. Enclosed toy trailers and motorcycle trailers can be towed by commonly accessible pickup trucks or cars, which generally requires no special permit beyond a regular driver's license. Specialized trailers like open-air motorcycle trailers and bicycle trailers are much smaller, and accessible to small automobiles. Some simple trailers are pulled by a draw-bar and ride on a single set of axles. Trailers are often hitched to a truck in order for the driver to tow a heavy load. In this free video series, a custom car repairman will demonstrate how to connect a trailer to a truck and how to load a car onto that trailer. Everything from installing a receiver hitch to connecting light wiring and winching a vehicle will be covered, in addition to safety tips on securing trailers and their loads.
"We're going to start off today talking about how to secure your trailer. We're going to give you a couple different options on how to secure your investment, keep the trailer from leaving unexpectedly. And also help secure it to the vehicle. I have two locks on this trailer. One goes through the top pin. So it helps when the trailer's on the vehicle. This can't release so the trailer could jump off the vehicle. It also keeps someone from hooking up their vehicle to the trailer while this lock's in place. We put the second one one. There's various different styles and this one keeps anyone from maybe using a smaller ball than is intended for the trailer and placing it on their vehicle. Because if you have enough weight on the front of the trailer you could still put this on a smaller ball and pull the trailer away and keep the front of the weight down. So that's a couple options. I like to use both locks at all times. And it makes it pretty difficult to steal this one. Anything can be stolen. Nine times out of ten what's going to happen they're going to go to an easier find. A trailer without a lock and this is going to do the job to protect your trailer."
