"One of the questions I get asked quite frequently is how does chiropractic actually help with sports and the athletic performance. Well in one way it helps increase range of motion, when we are talking about range of motion, we are talking about the ability to move faster, to move stronger, to cover distances on the ground much faster then you may have if you've got restrictions within your joints. Another way it also helps is it increases the healing time when we are talking about injuries to the joints. When ligaments get sprained, when muscles are strained, we are talking about an increase in healing rate. Where as we can get back, the athlete back to participation in their particular sport much quicker then say bed rest or just doing the traditional drug approach. Some of the other things that we go over when we talk about sports and chiropractic is also the coordination of the body. When we are talking about how a pitcher can throw a fast ball or a quarter back can throw a football or a golfer can hit a golf ball three hundred yards, we are talking about a coordination of a lot of muscles. All that coordination is actually is actually started with in the brain. And it flows down the spinal chord then out through the hairs of spinal nerves. These spinal nerves are what give the signal to the muscles to fire at the appropriate time, or to give power or to give precision at appropriate times. When we have interference to those spinal nerves, the communication process has been interfered with. We need to as chiropractors evaluate the spine, looking for the interference to those nerves allowing the body to now express itself as it was intended to. For instance when we are talking about Olympic runners, we are going down to the hundredth of a second. Sometimes that's the difference between gold medal and not getting a medal at all. So if we can get you to the point where you have all your muscles, all of your joints working on the same page at a hundred percent, you've got more of a chance to perform at an optimal level."
