Summary: For leprechaun costumes, green pants are always a good start. Choose the right pants for a leprechaun costume with tips from a makeup artist in this free video on making costumes.
In Irish mythology, a leprechaun is a type of male faerie said to inhabit the island of Ireland. They usually take the form of old men who enjoy partaking in mischief. Their trade is that of a cobbler or shoemaker. They are said to be very rich, having many treasure crocks buried during war-time. According to legend, if anyone keeps an eye fixed upon one, he cannot escape, but the moment the gaze is withdrawn, he vanishes. In this free video series, a makeup artist will demonstrate the creation of a leprechaun costume by outlining all of the clothing and accessories needed. From the simple elements, such as pants, shirts and hats, to the more detailed, such as belt buckles, stockings and sideburns, every aspect of a leprechaun costume will be covered. Additionally, tips will be provided on accessories that can take a leprechaun costume up a notch, such as carrying a pot of gold, magical wand or mug.
"Ok, so let's get started creating our leprechaun costume. Now keep in mind that our leprechaun costume is going to have you decked out in your St. Pattie's best to go out on the town. So you're going to have some traditional elements. You're going to have some crazy elements, and we're all going to start with some pants. Now this may not be the most logical beginning point but it's going to be a big part of our costume. Half of our costume no less. So definitely by getting yourself some good old green pants. Now, an estimated forty plus percent of the U.S. male population has a pair of green pants. So you're already ahead of the game. I recommend either having kind of a subdued green on the pants. We want other elements of our costume to kind of draw the eye more, and the pants, as you're going to see, they're important, but they're not going to be as exciting or as interesting as other elements of our costume. So make sure you can get a good pair of pants. If you do not own pants, no problem. You can go to a lot of stores. You don't have to worry like at Halloween time getting make-up on things. They can be a nice pair of green pants, a pair of pants that you'd would wear again after St. Pattie's day. So you can go to a lot of stores to buy a pair. If you don't want to spend a whole lot of moola, or if green is not your color and this is a one shot deal, you can also go to thrift stores where they have lots of good deals on all sorts of interesting colors and shades of green."
