"Another basic tool that I use is a camera and for years I have used a camera that takes film and now I'm transitioning to digital which is a whole other world for me but I'm starting to pick it up a little bit. But the reason I use a camera is I paint from photographs and from slides and the purpose behind that is the subject matter that I have chosen is extremely detail oriented. People that own horses and know a lot about horses, the cowboys with their gear, different things that go along in that world, they will understand and know immediately if they look at a piece and notice that something is out of order so I don't even attempt to paint a horse from a past memory or out of my head. I really stay really really true to the photograph because I truly believe that they want to see the authenticity. I paint very realistic images and they do need to be dead on and that is why I use my camera, I take photographs, I travel and just gather a lot of material that way so it keeps it fun for me. I enjoy it and it also keeps my paintings extremely accurate which is what I am known for. In the digital world of cameras now I still use slides and there is a process and you can actually do a search on line and find it where you can have a digital file converted to a slide and then you can continue on with the process just like normal."
