One of the things about watercolor that I found is it can be messy, it's not as messy as some other mediums but it can tend to get a little out of hand. So you need to have something handy with you to be able to clean up your spills, to wipe off your brushes, to do anything like that, so one of the things that I found to be really effective is just plain old paper towel. It works really well, it's very absorbent, it's inexpensive, and one of the things that I found with paper towel was the roll was a little too long and clunky and I got too much paper towel out of it, so I just cut the thing in half. You don't have to do this, but, that's what I did. I get a nice, small piece of paper towel. It fits well, it fits nicely into my hand, I can always have it handy when I'm down next to the color and I need to blot something off so the paper towel is always handy. You can fold it up into a small enough piece where you can lay the brushes on top of it and keep them clean, and they won't make a mess on your table. So very basic inexpensive paper towel, grab a bunch of rolls and you can use that when you're painting watercolor as well.
