"The laptop. The laptop is the brain of the teleprompter system. It feeds the words to the monitors. Whether it be for public speaking or for on camera shoots. There are a lot of teleprompter software programs available. I want to talk to you about the basics of the laptop used for teleprompting. First of all, if you decide to purchase teleprompter equipment, you will need to purchase a laptop that works with the software of your selection. Making sure that the ports, the memory, the speed, etc. fits your program. I highly recommend getting a computer with at least three USB ports. Second, you will have peripheral device like a track ball or a scroller, that allows you to scroll the words. This of course is one of the most important parts of your laptop setup. Third I recommend getting a computer with a nice size screen, so that you will have no trouble seeing your text in any given situation. Here's a tip. Its a good idea to purchase or rent a second or a backup computer with teleprompter software that matches yours. So you can have seamless switching between the two. You can purchase a simple video AV switcher from any computer supply shop. At one time or another technical problems are inevitable. So two are better than one."
