"Following a pattern gets easier the more practice you do. When you look at your pattern, the first thing it will tell you is the materials you will need to complete the project. In this particular case we need one skein of yarn in whatever color you wish, felt scraps for the eyes of the octopus which is what this pattern is, a size F or G crochet hook, and that is all we need. Now most patterns will tell you the gage which is how much yarn takes up, for instance, an inch. So when you make your chain how ever many loops that is you will need to count and see if that goes with the gage and in this case it doesn't matter because this is just something that can be any size. Then as we said in the prior segment there are a number of abbreviations and you simply follow the pattern based on those abbreviations for instance, chain two, join with slip stitch into ring which means you are chaining two on the yarn and then taking a slip stitch in that first chain like we learned in making a circle and then you continue following the pattern until you are finished and that is how simple it is to follow a pattern."
