"Hi. I'm Billy Gent with Bill's Pet Shop. In the segment today we're going to be teaching you how easy it is for a child to tame a bird, and learn to hand tame him. First you get, hold the hand straight out, like this. You teach the bird to step up by gently pressing against the breast and telling it "up". It's very easy to do. Parakeets have a naturally sweet disposition. One of the tricks of doing it, is the repetition, doing it over and over again. I've been working with this bird about thirty minutes, and you see how, docile and tame he is and how happy he is to sit on your finger. Even a child can do it. First thing you want him to do is get him to hold their hand out flat. Hold your hand out flat like mine. Then take it and gently press it against the bird's breast, and the bird will step up onto their hand. You want to keep the hand flat like this, so there's not a large place for them to bite, if they do choose to, and if you always tell them, step up, they'll learn to step up. Let's try that again. First of all, have the child hold their hand out flat like this. Next, take the hand and gently press it up against the bird, and they'll step right up on their hand. You want to do that very slowly, the first few times the child and the bird get used to it. As they become accustomed to each other, you just tell him "step up", and he'll come right up on you or the child. This one's only been worked with for about thirty minutes and you see how tame he already is. Press, real lightly and he steps up, and then to get him off, I press real lightly and then he gets off. "Cool". Pretty cool!"
