"My first job as a nutritionist I obtained actually in a very generic way. I believe I obtained it just looking through the newspaper and I found a job as a community nutritionist working with HIV AIDS patients. And so I got a chance to work with a neat population because this is a population that's really in need of nutrition and I got to start by learning about how to measure their body composition and how to coach people who are not so easy to counsel. That was my first job. Other first jobs that a lot of nutritionists get, if your a registered dietitian, are jobs in hospitals working as an entry level dietitian. Sometimes working in kind of general medicine floors. Other floors, too. Cardiology. Weight loss jobs. Working with patients, counseling them about weight loss. That's a very nice entry level job I've found. Another resource that you can use to find a job in the field of nutrition is nutritionjobs.com. And that's a nice on because it gives all sorts of different jobs and employers from anywhere can list it so it can be anything from hospital and nursing home type jobs to counselor positions at eating disorder facilities or at other weight loss facilities. There's other nutrition websites out there that post weekly jobs and daily jobs that come about. And then one of the best ways that I recommend to find a job is networking with wherever you went to do your education. So keeping in touch with the directors of the programs and finding a job that way. And one other thing that you should consider if you are going to school, to an internship as a registered dietitian is you're going to be working in all different sort of fields. So in some ways it's a first job in and of itself. So you're more ready when you get out into the world of jobs."
