"After I finished my education where I was going to school and my student teaching I was able to apply with many districts for my first job. And I have kind of a funny story. I called one district that I really wanted the job and they said, well all the jobs were filled. But they goofed. They didn't tell me that they had filled the last job with me. So I just got in because I had just completed my work during the summer. When I moved from elementary to middle school I was making a change in location of where I was going to live and I just met somebody and talked to them over the phone and was hired over the phone. And then I went down for the interview and it just happened to be for a middle school job. And they felt that I would make a good transition because of my experience that I had had in the past. When I first started interviewing for my first job it was a little bit scary at first. But some ideas that I recommend is to practice giving eye contact to the people that you are talking to and really being focused on your job. And then kind of sell yourself about all the positive things and why you would be so great for this particular job. Be sure to show interest in the school and what their activities are and what you could contribute to the school as far as improving it. I remember my first middle school interview up here. Well the first one was by telephone in another state. But the first one in the state I'm in, I had driven all day and all night to get here for the interview, with a friend. And so I was a little bit tired. But I was able to come in and to focus for just that short amount of time and I think they knew the dedication just because of the different sacrifices I made to arrive on time from another state."
