"Compensation for a middle school teacher varies from state to state. It is also based upon your education and your experience. Usually a brand new middle school teacher starting into the educational field will start somewhere around $30,000 and they will make increment jumps in their salary according to their experience and after several years will get a larger increase. During that time the middle school teachers are usually going to school and like working toward their masters and after so many units most districts will give an increment adjustment in the pay scale and a raise. A teacher that has been teaching maybe ten years might make on an average between $45 to $57,000 a year. This usually includes medical benefits and money paid in to retirement and there are many opportunities to pick up extra money to do extracurricular activities and then every time you complete units or extra educational learning usually your salary will increase. As you retire usually they look at your last three years of retirement so it is important to probably make those your highest years and that way you will earn the benefits of a salary and medical benefits for your retirement. Usually most middle school teachers will teach an average of 30 to maybe 35 years. There is a need for new middle school teachers and new special ed teachers as many of those that entered the teaching field are now getting ready to possibly get on to retirement. There is especially a need in the special education field for more and more teachers that are willing to do this and to work hard with their students to ensure learning success."
