Hi my name is Chell Garcia-Trias and I'm a modern dance instructor in Austin, Texas. I am going to show you how to do a hangover swing with a sternum lift the way that I would do it in modern dance. So we start with the hangover swing which involves standing up as tall as you can and imagining a water fall going up through your head which is going to let you drop your head and your shoulders and my arms are going to come with it. They are going to start up, they're going to swing back. I'm also going to bend my knees with it, swinging back. Now to do the sternum lift, I'm going to drop my arms and criss cross them and when I do I'm going to lift in the sternum, lift in the sternum and up so it looks something like this, up and over, bend your knees, stand up straight, lift the sternum, cross your arms, up with the arms, bend your knees and swing, lift with the sternum, bend your knees, swing, and lift with the sternum. It is really important that I think about space between each of my vertebra while I am doing this. So especially when I am lifting the sternum, I am not collapsing, I'm not falling back, I'm really lifting up with the sternum, up with the sternum, up and over, criss cross with the sternum and you can bend your knees at the top too, you can bend your knees at the bottom, bend, bend them at the top, bend them at the bottom, bend them at the bottom, bend them at the top. So that's the way to do a really nice hangover swing with lift in the sternum to warm up your entire body for your modern dance routine.
