Hi my name is Dan Schmidt from the Chinese Martial Arts Center in Seminole and in this clip we are going to be showing you the proper way to perform the upward hand block. So in a fighting position the fists come straight in towards the chest and you want to lean away, press the palm up, grab around the hand and a little bit on the wrist. You are going to start turning their palm upward, keep your elbow, bent, grab their elbow joint, push up as you step in and now flex the wrist, push straight in. You want to make sure that their wrist is higher than their elbow. So they punch, lean back, yield, twist, step in as you hit up, keep the wrist higher and press. So you want to put it altogether at once so they punch, yield, see, get out of the way of the punch, twist, step in and press. Some common errors are this when they punch, don't stand there and let the punch come all the way in so you have to yield out of the way so grab as the punch is coming in, twist, don't keep it completely in line because if you just push straight back they can just twist and they can just literally come in on the other side so push up and push down at an angle and press straight down. That's the proper way to perform the upward hand lock.
