Hi my name is Dan Schmidt from the Chinese Martial Arts Center in Seminole and today in this clip we are going to be performing an upward rowing, low strike combination. With this combination you want to start with both palms down, a thumb to thumb grip. Slide your hands out and from here squat low, you want to row the staff back, come straight back with the shoulder and now at the same time you are going to slide, step across, and hit low so it looks like this. Here, back, and set. Don't just bring the staff straight up, you want to turn your body to the outside and as you step so this way it blocks past you. Now as you are stepping you slide, bring the hands into duck head and hit low towards the leg. I'll do it this way, you are here, block, step, hit low. So remember it is very important to keep the duck head like this, elbow in, palm down, keep it tight. So this is how it works. So if he were striking at my head it would be block this way, step in, smash low and towards the leg, towards the knee or even towards the groin. Once again thrust in, block, smash. That's how you perform the upward rowing, low strike combination.
