"Hi, my name is Dan Schmidt from the Chinese Martial Arts Center in Seminole. Today in this clip we're going to be performing the Low Strike. So with the Low Strike, you want to start with the thumb to thumb grip. Stretch the hands out, so you have a little bit wider than the shoulder, shoulder width grip. Okay. So what you're going to do is you're going to step in and you're going to strike low this way. Okay. So when you step, bring the staff around the outside of your body, bring your left hand in, strike low. Just let your hand naturally slide. Okay. Now the left hand you want to use the Duck Head. Okay, cause it looks like a duck head that's why they call it the Duck Head. You want to dip the elbow down, keep it close to the body and you want your fist directly over your solar plexus. So when you're here, you step in, you smack low. This gives much greater control over the staff and where it goes. Okay. So this is how it's used. Okay, so you're fighting somebody here. Okay, what you want to do is you want to strike the lower portion of the body. So, you want to step in and you want to smash low. You can either hit to the ankle or you can hit to the side of the knee, you can also hit to the back of the thigh, either way. So like if they're going to come in with like an over the head strike, see, you can just come in, you could smack low, see, and you're out of the way, this way. So once again. So he comes in, strike, smash to the lower part of the ankle. Okay. It's very important to keep the Duck Head for this reason. Okay. So if he's holding the Duck Head wrongly, so if he's holding it wrong wards, it's not right over the solar plexus, it's easy to hit the weapon out of him. So here, see, straight down. Now, if he holds it correctly, it's nice and tight, doesn't go anywhere. He has more control than I do. So once again, if he holds it wrong, you could smash it down, okay. If he holds it correctly, he has more control. That's the Low Strike."
