Hi my name is Dan Schmidt from the Chinese Martial Arts Center in Seminole. Today in this clip we're going to be performing the Downward Rowing Block. With this type of a block, you want the thumb to thumb grip, so you could grab in the middle, pull your hands out, about a shoulder wight, a little more. Okay. So you want equal length on each side of your hands going outward. Okay, so from here, hold it down by the waist, you want to use the front of the staff, you want to block pass the body on the outside, here, twist, then descend here, much like rowing a boat. So on the outside of the body, inside of the body. Okay. You could perform it very fast, then go into the technique. So you're here, okay, and make sure that you keep it close to the body and don't row out of the corner. So close and twist out, pull back in. Here and here. Okay. So common application. So if they thrust in towards the leg, you block here, then again, this way. So once again, one, two. Now from here I can go on with the technique, strike, come around, anything. So once again, here, then here. That's how you perform the Downward Rowing Block.
