"Hi, my name is Dan Schmidt from the Chinese Martial Arts Center in Seminole. Today in this clip we're going to be performing the Upward Rowing Block. Okay. So this block, you want the thumb and thumb grip, okay. Slide it out about shoulder width. So you want about equal length each opposite end of your hand. So, in case when you're here, okay, so you want to twist your hips, pull straight back here and let the staff rest gently across your chest and your torso. Twist back, come up this way, here and pull straight back. Okay. And you want to use the knees, bend the knees and twist the waist, just like this, straight back, keep the staff very, very close. So the way this one is use, okay, so if we're fighting and he thrusts at the face, you want to twist, pull back. Then from there, you redirect the other side, pull back again. So you can do two of them pretty fast. So here as you go, one, two. Then again, one, two. From here, you can go on with either kind of strike, high, low, it doesn't matter. So once again, row, row. Once more, one, two. That's how you perform the Upward Rowing Block."
