"Hello I'm Sifu Mallon with the Clearwater Kung Fu Center. This is my assistant Melissa and this is Kickboxing. The next Kickboxing technique we're working is the technique with our legs. This is called our Lead Leg Sidekick. So I'll do it at normal speed for you. Now, lead leg sidekick is using your forward leg in a thrusting action. So, thrusting kick means that the mechanics work this way. Okay. As you see I can produce a tremendous amount of force this way, a lot of people throw their sidekick in a hinging action. That means the foot goes like this. Okay. You can produce a lot of force but you have to have a, you have to be at a far distance to do it. So thrusting sidekick is more suitable for Kickboxing. So, hands begin normal position, I'm just in a normal high guard, I'm bringing my rear leg up to my front leg, I turn sideways and base on my back leg. My hands stay up and my reference looking still stays forward. The rear foot, put it back, knee bent. This leg is going to lift up bringing my knee and my foot upward. From the upward position, I'm going to fire the foot out, my heel of the foot leading, my quadricep pushing. I bend the leg and step back. Normal speed. "Okay, Melissa go through it and we'll point out some of the slower point of details". Slide up, hold, rear foot turn out more, good. Now bend the knee and base yourself down. Hips, as a beginner, we want to really make sure that as that slide up happens, I turn my hips more so than usual. Now, the knee lifts and then the foot pushes out, down, step back. Good. "Okay, normal speed, Melissa". One more. Good. Pointing out some things with the feet on this combination. When you contact with your sidekick you don't want your foot flat this way, but you want the foot to use the blade. Okay. The blade of your foot, what it's going to do, okay, if we're using a quick example, imagine taking your hand and slapping your belly like this a few times. Now take that same hand and turn it sideways and hit. You'll feel that the energy doesn't disperse over the top, it penetrates in. That's what we want to accomplish when we throw that sidekick. This is Kickboxing, Sidekick."
