"Hello I'm Sifu Mallon with the Clearwater Kung Fu Center. This is my assistant Melissa and this is kick boxing. To start we're going to work on a side swing for jump rope. The jump rope is an important part of your overall warm up and work out for kick boxing. It develops a strong calf and strong ankles making it for you to move around easier. To begin with jump rope is kind of difficult. So to start we have what's called a side swing. You're going to begin swinging the rope around the side of your body this way. Holding both handles in the same hand. At the same time you're going to allow it to hit the floor and then start timing the jump with the hit. Okay I'm going to have Melissa come forward and demonstrate a few things so I can point out some pointers for you. Okay as she starts getting the rope going at a nice even speed. And she's listening for the timing of it to hit the floor. At this point she starts allowing with what's called a basic hop. This is where both feet move at the same time. She's landing softly on the balls of her feet keeping her heels off the ground. And she's going ahead and developing the timing that is important for jump rope. Good. A few more Melissa. Very good. This is kick boxing."
