"You know, the common consumer sparkler can add a lot of fun to any party or holiday event. Hi, I'm Captain Joe Bruni, with over three decades of fire fighting and emergency medical service experience. The common consumer sparkler, which is the most common type of consumer firework used at any gathering, party, or holiday event, can burn from 1,100 to 1,800 degrees. That's quite a significant amount of heat that can cause burn injuries to not only the user, but bystanders in the general area. The burn injury caused from the sparkler or other type of consumer firework is the leading cause, next to hand and finger injuries. Burn injuries can occur while the sparkler is still burning, or shortly after the life cycle of the sparkler has stopped. The bamboo stick or wire remains hot for quite a significant amount of time. People handling consumer sparklers should be taught the safety aspects, and to know not to touch the burned out sparkler shortly after the life cycle is over. I'm Captain Joe Bruni. Stay safe, and we'll see ya' next time."
