"You know consumer fireworks can add a lot of fun and excitement during parties and holiday events. Hi, I'm Captain Joe Bruni with over 3 decades of firefighting, emergency medical response experience. What I'm going to talk about is a general guideline when it comes to using consumer fireworks. Smoking should never happen with the ignition person, or around unused fireworks. It has been a common practice throughout America for people to use a burning cigarette or cigar as the ignition device, to light consumer fireworks. Consumer fireworks are something that pose a hazard in an area where someone may be smoking, or using smoking materials. The ignition devise should commonly be the standard butane lighter, grill lighter that's extendable, or road flare, or a pyrotechnic torch specially designed to light fireworks. At no time should a burning cigarette or cigar be permitted in the area where unused fireworks are kept, or in the launch area where fireworks are going to be ignited. In this way we can help to reduce burn injuries and blast injuries from consumer fireworks. Stay safe, and we'll see you next time. I'm Captain Joe Bruni."
