"Consumer fireworks can add a lot of fun and excitement during any holiday event or party. Hi I'm Captain Joe Bruni with over three decades of firefighting and emergency medical service experience. One of the common safety practices that we're going to talk about is proper procedure for igniting the common consumer firework. Something as simple as the sparkler to as complex as the fountain roman candle or bottle rocket. A good rule of thumb is to keep your distance and be clear of the firework when lighting. They should be lit one at a time by someone designated as the ignition office or shooter. And this person should be a responsible adult. Never stand over top of the common consumer firework, that emit showers or sparks, explodes or burns at a rapid rate. It's a good safety practice to use some type of lighting device like a grill lighter or an extended butane type of lighter for barbeque grill purposes to extend your reach of the ignition source, to put a greater distance between you and the consumer firework. Sparklers should be held at arms length unlit by the user, and then lit by the person designated as the ignition officer or shooter. In this way chances of burn injuries are reduced and chances of uneventful fires or unexpected fires are reduced. Remember keep your distance away from any type of consumer type of firework during the. And we'll see you next time."
