"Hello I'm Sifu Mallon with the Clearwater Kung Fu Center. This is Kickboxing and this is Basic Pads. We're going to start today with my assistant Melissa, and we're going to begin with Straight Punch, Holding The Pads. So, we're going to talk about holding the pads first. The target mitts you're going to place onto your hands this way and you're going to hold your elbows down towards your body and you're going to place one foot in front of you, so you have a nice solid base. We want to think about putting the targets toward the centerline of your body as they're striking forward. So you don't really want to hold the targets too far like this, but you're looking to push one hand to one hand. "So Melissa go ahead and stand in front of me, put your left foot forward". Okay. And we're going to go nice and slow to begin with. Now, to start with the hand combination, your knees are bent, your body's relaxed and Melissa's hands drop in her guard position. Now starting slow, she's going to take her left hand and bring her left hand to meet my left hand, okay. And then she brings this back and I come forward with the right hand. Okay. Going nice and slow with this. Good. Now as far as my holding part is what we're talking about, I'm looking to reach out and make contact with her glove and resist. Okay. So I don't want to go out, hit and hit myself with the mitt. So I want to make contact and firm the arm up. "Punch a little bit harder for me Melissa". Good. Okay, that's good. Now, the focus person holding the focus mitts has to be very and have to concentrate a lot during the Pad Drills, okay. So you have to work just as hard as the person throwing the punches working this. This is how you hold the pads for your Straight Punch, Kung Fu."
