"Hello, I'm shifu Mallan with the Clearwater Kung Fu Center. This is my assistant Melissa and this is women's self defense. We're working on escapes right now. We're working on what's called the cross grab escape. This is when someone comes up to you and grabs across your body this way, what I mean in cross grab. Now initially what happens most the time when someone grabs your hand, o.k. is they're going to go ahead and grab to control and also grab to get you closer to them. So you're going to use this to your advantage. So as they grab and squeeze pulling this way, you can take a small step forward with the same arm and the same foot that they grab with and then you're going to pull your arm twirling back rotating your arm. Now the rotation is important. If you're looking at the hand nice and close here, as this hand goes it’s not just pull up and go this way, but she's going to rotate her forearm and pull. O.k., and that's what's going to escape from the grip. Now you'll see if I do it very hard what happens is my hand will sound like its snapping. Pull Melissa, go. That's it. Now you want to make sure that if you're doing this right in a self defense situation, you're going to have to exert a lot of force as you go through it. So you don't want to just go and just pull your arm out like it’s going to happen. You want to go ahead and take that step and rip your arm out. Again, so I grab, I pull, step and pull back. Opposite side, same thing. That's it. This is how we do cross grab escape women's self defense."
