Hello, I'm Sifu Mallon with the Clearwater Kung Fu Center. This is my assistant Melissa and this is women's self defense. We're working on basic techniques right now. We're working, to start with, what's called our toe kick. The toe kick is a combination between a hinging kick and a lifting kick. Let me explain the difference between the both. The hinging kick is where your leg is lifting and hinging at your knee. A lifting kick is where your leg just lifts straight up so we're going to combine the two. We're going to do a hinge and we're going to do a lift, making the kick very strong. Melissa go ahead and put your left foot forward put your right foot behind now. Now, talking about the foot itself, the toe kick is kind of like a play on name. We're not really kicking with your toe but we're, more or less, kicking with your instep along the front of the foot. You can even impact a little bit higher along the shin bone, if you need to. That's an excellent surface for striking. Delivering the kick, Melissa puts one foot in front, one leg in back. You'll see that there's going to be a lift and a hinge of the leg. Go ahead and one and two, three, four, five, six, good one more, seven. This kick, you don't have to be extremely flexible for it so you don't need to possess the flexibility to lift your foot over your head, just enough so you can get your leg up and kick in between their legs. So, if Melissa is standing, left foot in front and now throwing the kick in between the legs, just nice and slow, that's as high as your kick needs to go to be effective. This is toe kick, women's self defense.
