"Hello, I'm Sifu Mallon of the Clearwater King Fu Center. This is my assistant Melissa and this is women's self defense. We're working on self defense basic moves so this next one we're working is called elbow strike. The elbow strike again is a close quarter technique to where we're using the elbow as a striking surface. So if I look at Melissa's elbow, let's see this left arm Melissa. Okay, so squeeze your hand, make a fist. Now as you're holding the elbow you want to make sure that your elbow, ok that your fist stays in close range to your shoulder. So you don't want to have the arm way, way here like this, we want it nice and close in. We also want to go ahead and rotate not so much with your shoulder joint, right? But you want to rotate when you hit with your shoulder your whole body. Okay your whole body striking through. Now the striking surface on your elbow right, is hitting right here in this point, in this area here. This elbow strike can be done several ways. Okay, we can go horizontally so we're striking across the body this way. We can also go with an upper elbow coming straight up like an upper cut lifting. Okay, we can also do a reverse elbow pulling the elbow straight back. The reverse elbow you're using the very tip of the elbow so it may not feel like a harder strike but you're using a more concentrated surface so it delivers a stronger impact. Okay Melissa, let's go ahead and demonstrate a few of the horizontal elbows, okay? Now she gets her arm up, fist close to shoulder, gets turned back left, comes in right. Again. One more. Good Melissa. Again this technique is very useful for women that are using it in self defense because you don't have to do a lot of training. Okay and your elbow is very strong so there's a low risk of you injuring yourself while doing self defense techniques. This is elbow striking, women's self defense."
