"Hi, this is John Stewart, and this is how to spark or ignite the flame when building your fire. Once you've got your fire set up, all there's left to do is actually spark or ignite the fire. You can do this many different ways. Easiest way is if you have matches or a lighter. These can be carried very easily, as long as they're kept dry and out of the rain. Just light the fire right up, light some matches, stick it at the base of your fuel source, and watch it burn. If you don't happen to have those, you can do it with a magnesium stick for flint. What you do these is you just take a magnesium stick. Some of them come with an igniter blade. If you don't have that, you can easily use your knife. What you want to do is you want to shave some of the magnesium off, right into your fuel source, and then take and give one big strong push, and that's going to spark that, and then burn all that magnesium off. Once you've done that your fire should take right off. In case you don't have these three items, you can use some other sources; putting some rocks together, or you can do the old bow and string, to where you take and make a lot of friction by rubbing wood together to hopefully get a ember. And this is how you can ignite your fire for building a fire."
