"Hi, my name is Mitra Chester and we are at Deluxe Resale Boutique in Eugene, Oregon. I am going to talk to you today about how to know when your jeans fit you correctly. Once you have selected a style that you are attracted to, considering the rise, the measurement from the crotch to the waist, to the leg style, the fade, fabric content and size. Then you would want to put them on. I am going to go through some things that you would want to avoid when you have these jeans on, when you are considering the fit. So, this is the correct size for her but there are some problems. First of all, if you'll turn around, you want to avoid what most people call muffins tops; which is the bulging of the skin above the waistline. That's basically caused by the waist being either too narrow for that part of your body or in the wrong place. So, to avoid that, you would want to try maybe a higher rise or lower rise pants, or one that is cut differently with a broader waistband. Then, the other problem with these particular jeans, is they are basically too baggy right here and even right here. They actually are the correct size and fit throughout the hips. They are also a little bit long. You can get a narrower leg to avoid this and length is not a problem. You can always cuff or even very simply have them tailored or or altered for about ten to twenty bucks. You can get a pair of jeans to fit your length perfectly. Now, if you will turn around, another problem with this pair is kind of some excess fabric in the crotch area. Again, you might want to select something that has a little bit of stretch to it or fits a little more closely in the leg. So, I'm going to have her change and put another pair on. We are going to go through some other issues that you might find when trying on jeans. So, now she has this pair of jeans on and there are also some issues with this pair. The fit is definitely better but it seems that they may be too tight in certain areas. For instance, any time you can see the pocket. This is not necessarily the case with this pair but any time you can see the pocket through the jeans that may be an issue of being too tight. Another, is when it's kind of pulling and there are some interesting, different types of lines through the crotch area. If you will turn around, this area is definitely an area where you might notice it being too tight. There should be some natural kind of wrinkles occurring in this area. If they are strained or kind of too small, you can see that they are a little bit too tight. Also, if your not comfortable with this height of rise, you may be exposing some undergarments. You know, it's really kind of a matter of opinion but you may consider to just wear the appropriate undergarments for certain pairs of jeans. I'm going to have her change again into another pair that fits actually very well. We will look at what that looks like. Okay, so this pair of jeans actually fits very nicely on her particular shape. There's not a lot of bulging going on above the waistband. So, she has found a rise that works for her. There doesn't seem to be any excess fabric or strain of fabric in this area or the thighs. The length is pretty much perfect. If you will turn around, it fits very nicely in the leg and butt area. There is not too much, too many tight wrinkles going on here or just this segue with no wrinkles. So, it basically fits very nicely. Other things to think about, is if you're trying on a new pair of jeans, you may want to allow for any kind of shrinkage. So, if its kind of on the tight edge. You want to, you know, maybe go a little looser because they probably will shrink if they are not pre-washed. If you're shopping for used jeans that is not necessarily the case. Just consider also with length and certain leg fits, if you find something that is really nicely fitting up here and you need the legs altered it's very easy to get that done by going to a tailor or seamstress. You can get the length and this but it is really important to get the fit correct in this area. So, basically, my last hint is if you're wearing a style of jeans that you feel confident in you can pretty much pull anything off. Having something be successful has a lot do with the attitude that you are projecting when you are wearing something."

on 4/22/2009 Hey Mitra! I love our videos! I just bought my first pair of skinny jeans and was wondering, what kind of undies go best under skinny jeans? When i wear my normal undies they bunch up and peak out the back so should I wear a thong or go commando or what? What do you recommend? Thanks again!
