"Hello, my name is Officer Mike Roach. I currently work with the Utah Department of Wildlife Resources. I've been doing my job as a game warden or conservation officer in this state for about eleven years. Today I'd like to talk to you briefly about becoming a game warden in the state of Tennessee. In Tennessee, they require that you be at least twenty one years of age. You also need to have a biological science in either forestry or or a natural resource related field. You're also going to need to also be able to pass a fairly extensive background investigation, because eventually you're going to be certified as peace officer for the state. You need to be able to pass a physical exam and a written exam and an interview with their chief of law enforcement over their wildlife officers. In the state of Tennessee you're going to be required to become a peace officer. This is going to require you to go to their Police Academy and be certified as a Peace Officer. While there you will learn the laws that are applicable to wildlife enforcement and also to the rest of the state. You'll be required to learn how to shoot, in the firearms training and both arrest control and other types of training. So it requires you to both be mentally tough and physically tough. And the job as a game warden also requires a lot of lifting and hiking and those sorts of things. All these skills are, are, you know, very applicable to becoming a game warden in Tennessee. The other thing in Tennessee, they, they like people to have a natural interest in these sort of things; like hunting and fishing and those types of activities in wildlife management, because you're going to be doing it on a day to day basis and you need to have a good knowledge and interest in these sort of things."
