"Hi, this is John Stewart and this is how to select and pack your footwear for a weekend camping trip. You definitely want to take and get a good pair of boots, hiking boots specifically for your camping trips in case you're backpacking. These boots are going to give you a lot of support in the arch and also be able to sustain that heavy load of a pack on you for eight to ten miles a day. You normally want to get a boot that's taller, this is going to give you a little more ankle support. But mainly you get your support from the rigidity of the shoe. Try and get a shoe that's going to be real tough, abrasion resistant so it can take a beating out on the trail, OK? Whenever you do go out on a backpacking trip, always get your boots beforehand and wear them as much as you can before you go on the trip so that they're broke in and you don't build up hot spots and stuff like that that's going to lead to blisters. So always get a good pair of boots for your hiking trip. For the nighttime and stuff, you always want to rest your feet and take your boots off and let them air out and vent. So you always want to take something you can poke around the campground with. You can take something as simple as crocs, a flip flop, very basic light weight, OK? These are just going to be there for nighttime use, you getting up and going to the bathroom, something like that. These things can be strapped onto the outside of the pack, slid in a sleeve on the outside of the pack, it doesn't really matter where you put them. They're just there for multi-purpose use when you don't have your boots on. So this is how to select and pack your boots for a weekend camping trip."
