"Hi, this is John Stewart, and this is how to select and pack your ground mat for a weekend camping trip. You don't necessarily have to have a ground mat for a weekend trip, but it makes it very, very comfortable, and easier to sleep at night, and you can get different types of ground mats. You can use something as simple as a egg carton foam mat that you find under beds and stuff. You can buy them at Wal-Mart real cheap. Real easy, you just roll them up, strap them on the outside of the pack. You can also get inflatable mattresses. They're going to inflate about one and a half to two inches thick, and then they're going to compact down to where they're really, really small, and they don't take up a lot of weight or volume inside your pack. They're also going to be puncture resistance, to where you don't have to worry about them deflating, or something like that in the middle of the night. Once you have selected your type of ground mat you're going to use, you can just strap this right on the bottom of your pack, or the top of the pack. Most of the time, the inside and outside of your pack's going to have straps all over it, so you can easily strap this to the outside of your pack. Strap it right to the bottom. You're just going to take and lay it on there, run your straps over it, and then just cinch it down from there, and it's going to stay right on there. So this is how to select and pack your ground mat for a weekend camping trip."
