"Hi, this is John Stewart, and this is how to select and pack your survival equipment for a weekend camping trip. When you go camping, you always want to prepare for the worst, so this is why it's a good idea to take and put together a small, but very simple survival kit. This survival kit is going to include very few things. One more, one important thing is a knife; carry a knife. This is going to help you for cutting items; cutting rope, cutting trees, limbs; stuff like that for building a shelter, so always take a knife in your survival kit. Try and get a compass; a very simple compass, doesn't have to be nothing special. You can get a wrist compass for your watchband, if you have to. This is going to help you find your location in case you get lost, and tell you what direction you need to head. Take some rope. Rope's going to be good in case you have to build a shelter. You can also take rope in case you cut little pieces, tie them to trees, leave them behind so you can mark your trail for others to see, and also if you need to turn around and head back. Take rope. And lastly, try and get a flint and steel. You can get a magnesium stick if you're going to take your knife, but get a flint and steel so that you can start a fire. These always work when starting a fire, so make sure you take one of these, because a fire can keep you very, very warm at night, and it's also a big morale booster, so a flint and steel. When you pack your survival kit, try and put it in a waterproof box, bag, Ziploc bag; something like this. And this can go really anywhere in the pack, just because you can pull this out at anytime you need it, because you don't really want to have it first hand. It's just there in case you do need it for an emergency, so you can put your survival kit anywhere inside your pack. This is how to select and pack your survival needs for a weekend camping trip."
