"Hi, this is John Stewart. And this is how to select and pack your first aid equipment for a weekend camping trip. No matter the length of your camping trip, you always want to take some first aid equipment. You never know when you might run into an emergency or just a small cut or scrape. So you want to pack real light, but enough that you'll be able to accomplish something in case of a dire emergency. Some of the few things you can pack, gloves. Gloves are going to be real key for not transmitting any diseases. In case there's a lot of blood, always wear some gloves. OK? Take two or three pair, then you can dispose of them afterwards. Tape, you always want to take some tape. Tape's key in case you have to splint something up. Tape a band aide on something. Because a lot of times a band aide's not going to stick as good, because you're sweating and a lot of movement. So take some tape just to and secure some stuff. Always take some clean wipes, antiseptic wipes. These are going to be real good because you can clean up the cut, scrape or whatever thing you're treating. Get it clean to where no bacteria's in there and that it doesn't have to worry about getting infected. So take some of them. Gauze pads, in case you do have a bigger cut. Gauze pads are going to be good for stopping the bleeding and also keeping the wound closed up and away from the outer elements so it doesn't get infected. Always take a ace bandage wrap. Just need to take one. They roll up really small they've got the clips on them. This is going to be key for splinting items, splinting a wrist, something like that. You can wrap it up to support something in case you dislocate a certain body part. So take one ace bandage. Always want to take band aides. They're real simple, real easy to find. They treat all sorts of wounds. From a prick of a finger all the way up to about a one, two inch cut. So always take several band aides. Take a knife with your first aid kit. Not only for cutting open different parts of your first aid kit, opening stuff. But also in case you have to get a splinter out, do something like that. Take a knife with you. Other things you can take in case you have a severe cut. Is take some sterile strips. These are going to be good for pulling a cut together. So take some of them in case you have a larger cut. Always put your first aid kit in a water proof bag. This can be a heavier duty one. But you can go with something as simple as a zip lock bag.
