"Hi. This is John Stewart and this is how to tie a truckers hitch. A truckers hitch is going to be key when it comes to strapping stuff down. It can be used for strapping balance stern lines on your canoe, kayak. It can be used for strapping stuff into a gear basket, in a trailer. Tightening to ends to something. It's really key for strapping stuff down and holding them in place really, really tight. It's very simple to tie. You're just going to have a base point. Loop it around there, tie a basic overhand knot. Then you're going to take it to your other point. Go around it. In case of this tree you can go through an eyelet on a crate, eyelet on a motorcycle, something like that, just go through that, go around it. Hold this rope and take your main line. what you want to do here is you just want to put a basic slip knot in the rope okay? Take it and loop it and pull. Basic slip knot where it slides, okay? Hold that, come grab your rope, run your tag in through the eye of the slip knot and then you just cinch it down. And as you can see it puts a good bit of tension on this, alright? To tie it off all you do is you take and go around the rope and back through and then just pull that tight and you've got a nice tight strap system. We'll show you one more time. Tie it around your anchor point. Go around your other. Before you do anything else put a slip knot in the rope, make a loop, come through it with your tag end, okay? Come grab this, tag end through the eye. Pull it tight. Pinch it. Take your tag end make a loop and go through it and then just pull that tight. If you have a heavier load you can take and add a second hitch to this to where it has some back up to it. And that's how to tie the truckers hitch."
