Video Transcript

"My name is Wes Rhodes. I'm from the Chinese Kung Fu Academy and for Expert Village, and this is how you perform the Praying Mantis Stance, Small Bow. Now to perform this stance you start from a long stance, like a Long Bow Stance. The Small Bow is half the distance. What you're going to do is instead of having the back legs straight, you're going to actually bend the knee and squat low to the ground. You want to make sure that you're not too wide, because then you're open for groin strikes, so you turn the knee in and sit kind of low. Don't stick the butt out, you want to have a straight back. See, Small Bow. See it on the other side. Start from a long stance, Small Bow. And this is a very mobile stance. You can start from one side and move very quickly to the other side. See the same thing. With these stances you're able to cover long distances very, very quickly, and be able to strike, attack and block in succession, rapidly. So again, so you can see it, start from the hands on the waist, step forward into a Long Bow Stance, just bring the back knee in. Same thing on the other side, Long Bow Stance, back knee in, you squat low keeping the back straight, the head up. That's how you perform the Small Bow Stance in the Praying Mantis Style."
