"Hi I'm Stan DeFreitas, Mr. Green Thumb, for On Gardening. Bananas, everybody loves bananas, and you know you can grow your own banana in a frost free area. This one is a dwarf banana, and it's a dessert quality banana. It's called a double mahoy. Now it'll have a banana about the size of this half a banana, but it will put on nice big hands and it'll put a bunch on for you. It'll take about eighteen months. Now this is sort of a dessert quality one. You can see it's got a pretty foliage, so it can also be used as a landscape plant. I'd typically have it in a container. Why? Because you can bring it in. If we get a frost or freeze, or you get a frost or freeze where you're at, you need to be able to bring it in and protect it. But this plant is a beautiful little plant. It could be one you could keep in a well, earth box, you could have it in a eighteen inch container, it would continue to grow. So you don't necessarily have to have a real large area. We all like the idea of having bananas and you can have your own banana, you know, just growing it in your own backyard. Make sure you do fertilize it about every two months. Make sure it gets about six hours of bright sun. For On Gardening, I'm Stan DeFreitas, Mr. Green Thumb."
