"So the first knot we're going to talk about, is a knot that we all pretty much already know, but anyway, it's called the overhand knot. We use it in tying our shoes. You start by just taking a rope, and crossing it, so if you wanted to tie it around a pole, for instance this one. You just take it, form an X like so, and then you go over, and then under, and you tie it around to tighten it, just like on your shoes. This knot is important, because it's useful for tying many other knots. There's the square knot, the granny knot, surgeon's knot, and also another quick modification on this knot, is the double overhand knot, and you start it the same way. Form the X. You go under and around, and then, since it's a double overhand knot, you do it one more time, and then you tighten it. Anyway, these knots will be used a lot throughout the next clips, so it's important to know them."
