"So when you're backpacking you want to keep all your stuff dry. So when you're sleeping at night, obviously there's not enough room in the tent for you to put your backpack inside the tent, but you're going to want it to stay dry. So what I do at night is I take my pack cover, which is basically this big piece of waterproof cloth with elastic around it, and I'm going to put it on my backpack. Some people even hike with their pack covers on their backpack during the day. I think it's a good idea to keep it handy, but you don't necessarily always need to have it on there. You want to buckle your belt, because you don't want it sitting on the ground. If it's sitting on the ground it's going to get really wet. So then you take your pack cover out, and you want to make sure that you get a pack cover that's big enough, too. That's really important, cause' if it's too small, everything in your in your backpack is going to get wet. So it needs to go around all the edges, and it needs to be able to like even come in a little bit, so that it's protecting what's in there. So, stow all your stuff out of the way, and then you're going to lean it up against a tree like that, so the rain that's coming down is just going to hit the pack cover. And because you have it wrapped all the way around even the water that seeps around the edges is not going to get to your pack, and it'll stay completely dry."
