"When you're out hiking, or when you're about to start hiking or go on your trek, you first have to plan the route that you're going to take. You have to look at a map, you have to find somebody who knows about the trails and you need to talk to them. You know, are there going to be any hazards on the way? You know, is there anything unexpected that's happened this season that I don't know about? So, be sure to find somebody who's knowledgeable and then talk to them about the trek that you're going on. If you're doing it at a national park, you'll have to register with them and tell them at what campsites you'll be at and which days. But it's really important, don't make yourself go, or don't put in, basically, what you think is the limit of how much mileage you can do a day, because you have to get to that campsite by the end of the day, and if you don't make it by the time the afternoon storm hits, or even by nightfall, it can be really, really dangerous. You have to find your campsite, you have to get there in time. And if you think that you'll be able to do it just fine, but you want to do more hiking than that, maybe plan your trek around places that have, say little side trips that you could go on, so once you have camp set up and you know that you're there, and you know that you've missed the afternoon storm, you can go and you can do a little day trek on your own without having the danger of not being able to get back to the campsite in time."
