"When you're hiking up and down mountains, one of the things that is another really common injury is like joint pain. You can have joint pain in your ankles, or in your knees, or in your hips, because as you're going down the mountain you're having this real kind of jarring every single time you take a step down. It's all the body weight that you have, plus the weight of the pack is jarring down on to each knee and each hip. And so there's a couple of ways that you could deal with that. One of the ways that you could deal with it is there's a variety of different kinds of walking or trekking polls, basically. Some people just use one, and it just kind of, you know, I don't know, it just relieves kind of some of the pressure. You can put it on the stick, and some people actually use two and it's kind of like ski poles. They make them so that they can collapse to real small, they make them really, really light weight. Some people just use a regular stick that they find as they're hiking. But, that's just one of the solutions that you can use to prevent your joints from getting injured on your backpacking trip."
